Metafoam is revolutionizing the electrolyzers' industry with the development of flow-through porous electrodes and metal foam coated flat plate electrodes. Such products can significantly increase the contact area and thus the efficiency of conventional flat plate electrodes. Initial porous electrode prototypes tested at external laboratories already perform 40% better than conventional flat plate electrodes made from the same metal. Ongoing testing will further demonstrate the performance advantages of using Metafoam's material as high surface electrodes.
Metafoam copper, iron, and nickel foams can be very useful to increase surface area up to 100,000 times compared to metal plates. Thus, increased contact leads to important improvements mostly in terms of productivity and energy savings.
These porous electrodes can be used for many electrochemical processes like chlorate production, nitrites removal, and water electrolysis (hydrogen production).
