What's the difference between Type I, Type II and Type IIR Face Masks?
The classification of Type I, Type II and Type IIR face masks are according to EU standard EN14683.
Type I face masks have a BFE (bacterial filtration efficiency) of 95%, whereas Type II and Type IIR face masks have a BFE of 98%.
Type II and Type II R face masks have a BFE of 98%, but Type IIR medical masks require additional splash protection against blood and other bodily fluids.
Type I, II and IIR face masks are medical masks tested in the direction of exhalation (inside to outside) and take into account the efficiency of bacterial filtration. Medical or surgical masks of this type stop the wearer from infecting the surrounding environment.
